The first two books described below are required. The third book is optional, but highly recommended. Anyone who will be taking EVOC 501 should acquire these books and start reading them without delay (i.e. - right now would be good).

In order to facilitate access to the books listed, they can be ordered through amazon.com by simply clicking on the book title and then completing the online order information. The two required reading books are also available in most college and public libraries, but the paperback editions are well worth owning. Some scholars find it helpful to underline various passages and write notes in the margins. This practice is highly encouraged, but only with books that are owned by the scholar doing the underlining!

The One Minute Manager
by Johnson and Blanchard (READ THIS IMMEDIATELY !)

This short book is easy to read and illustrates specific strategies for developing productive interpersonal relationships. For additional information and/or to order the book, follow the book title link above or cover link at left to Amazon.com.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
by Steven Covey (READ THIS NEXT and DON'T DELAY !)

This book is a little longer but filled with excellent specific information to help facilitate success. For additional information and/or to order the book, follow the book title link above or cover link at left to Amazon.com.

Verbal Judo - The Gentle Art of Persuasion
by George Thompson (OPTIONAL but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !)

This is an excellent book written by someone who has been very successful in getting other people to do what he wanted them to do. For additional information and/or to order the book, follow the book title link above or cover link at left to Amazon.com.

For those who want to read more about teaching and learning, the following books (many of which are required in other EVOC courses) should provide a fairly broad introductory perspective:
One last thought: it may be helpful to order books you are particularly interested in now so you will not forget about them and you will have them on hand when you are ready to read them.
