EVOC 501 Synopsis of Assignments
EVOC 501 Distance Learning
EVOC 501

The EVOC 501 course is intended to provide guidance that will help new teachers prepare to teach, deliver effective instruction to students and evaluate what students learn. A variety of assignments and activities are used do develop and refine basic teaching skills.

The EVOC 501 assignments include: nine Facilitating Activities, four Written Reports, two Lesson Presentations, four Evaluation Activities and four Quizzes. Some basic information about the assignments is provided below and specific information and examples for all assignments are included in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT.

NOTE: It has proven to be advantageous to subscribe to the EVOC 501 E-TEXT (follow link at bottom of page) and to complete the FA1, FA2 and FA5 assignments (see below) BEFORE applying for admission to CSUSB and officially enrolling in EVOC 501.

ROP Teachers are encouraged to complete the "Credential Report Information" assignment (follow the "credentialing requirements" link at FA5 below) even if they do not enroll in EVOC courses at CSUSB, as that assignment will provide valuable direction about how to meet credentialing requirements.

FACILITATING ACTIVITIES

Each of the nine Facilitating Activities is an "experience" that will help to promote success in both the EVOC 501 course and in preparation for teaching. The facilitating activity (FA) assignments are:
FA1 Field Trip - a very interesting cyberspace scavenger hunt.

FA2 Data Sheet - a brief resume of your own background.

FA3 Class Roster - Information about students you might teach.

FA4 Reading Assignments - follow this link for an early start.

FA5 Info Memo - what to do to meet credentialing requirements.

FA6 Culture and Video - ethics and reality in popular movies.

FA7 Critical Vocabulary - talking the talk of education.

FA8 Tools for Teaching - some good things to help teachers.

FA9 Related Studies - other good things to find out about.
WRITTEN REPORTS

Each of the four Written Reports is focused on something that will help teachers prepare to teach. The written report (WR) assignments are:
WR1 List of Resources - what you need to teach what you teach.

WR2 Topics & Tasks - the relationship between what's said and done.

WR3 Course & Unit Plans - how what you teach can be organized.

WR4 Typical Short Quiz - evaluating what your students learn.
LESSON PRESENTATIONS

Both of the two short Lesson Presentations need to be video taped and mailed to the course instructor (or posted on a personal web site). Specific directions and examples (actual videos of different types of lesson presentations) are included in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT.

EVALUATION ACTIVITIES

These Evaluation Activities involve both self evaluations of one of your own written reports and one of your own lesson presentations as well as evaluations of actual student work. All of the evaluation activities focus on both positive reinforcement and constructive criticism.

QUIZZES

The four Quizzes require brief explanations of how various concepts, activities and materials discussed in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT could be applied to the individual circumstances in which you teach (or in which you might teach).

SUBSCRIBING TO THE E-TEXT

This is both easy and inexpensive. Anyone may subscribe to the E-TEXT and start working on the assignments at any time. It is highly recommended that newly hired ROP teachers (or any newly hired teachers) subscribe to the E-TEXT and start working on the EVOC 501 assignments as soon as they are hired (or before).
