Synopsis of Assignments
EVOC 502/503 Distance Learning![]()
The EVOC 502 and 503 courses should be taken concurrently and are intended to provide guidance that will help new teachers collect, evaluate and organize information and materials needed to deliver effective instruction to students. A variety of assignments and activities are used to facilitate this process.
The EVOC 502/503 assignments include: four Scholarly Activities (total for both courses), two Book Reports (one for each course), twelve Written Assignments (six for each course), and six Quizzes (three for each course). Some basic information about the assignments is provided below and specific information and examples are included in the EVOC 502/503 E-TEXT.
SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES
Each of the nine activities is an "experience" that will help to promote success in both the EVOC 501 course and in preparation for teaching. The facilitating activity (FA) assignments are:SA1 Career Narrative - a little different than from EVOC 501.
BOOK REPORTS
SA2 Resource Web Sites - a list of web sites you will use.
SA3 Professional Development Plan - what you are going to do.
SA4 Professional Insights Journal - quotes you collect .

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
Each of the written assignments is focused on something that will help teachers prepare to teach. The written assignments are:502 WA1 Rules and Penalties - using assertive discipline.
QUIZZES
502 WA2 Student Organizations - setting up a student club.
502 WA3 Course Budget Proposal - planning for expenses.
502 WA4 Facilities Floor Plan - organizing your space.
502 WA5 Public Relations Event - how to do it.
502 WA6 Advisory Committees - how to work with them.
503 WA1 Individual Education Plan - for a specific student.
503 WA2 Work Study Contract - for a specific student.
503 WA3 Pre Course Survey - for a course you might teach.
503 WA4 Post Course Survey - for a course you might teach.
503 WA5 Letter of Recommendation - how to write one.
503 WA6 School Board Meeting - attend and report on.
The quizzes require that short essays be written about specific teaching and learning related concepts and activities.
IN-SERVICE PRESENTATION
Working individually or in small groups EVOC 502/503 scholars will collect and organize information and materials that could be presented to other faculty members at a school at which they teach, could teach or have taught.
