Synopsis of Assignments
EVOC 518 Distance Learning![]()
The EVOC 518 course is intended to provide guidance to new teachers for the development of a portfolio of information and materials that will facilitate both organization and delivery of on-site instruction. Everything needed to structure this portfolio (specific directions, information, examples, and links to a wide variety of resource materials) is included in the EVOC 518 E-TEXT.
This course will be of most value to teachers who are actually teaching a course of their own at the time they do the EVOC 518 assignments. It can be successfully completed even by scholars who have never taught a course of their own. It is highly recommended to complete all of the EVOC 501 assignments before starting on any of the EVOC 518 assignments (except that the 518 Data Sheet should be completed and submitted ASAP).
The EVOC 518 assignments include a Data Sheet and School Site Document, nine Written Reports, two Media Presentations, a variety of Extra Mile Activities, and three Status Reports. The portfolios are intended to be organized in a manner that will allow the addition of new information and materials throughout the teachers whole career.
DATA SHEET and SCHOOL SITE DOCUMENTS
Information with pictures about both the teacher (scholar working on the EVOC 518 assignments) and the environment in which he/she teaches, or hopes to teach.
WRITTEN REPORTS
There are nine of these and each one is focused on something that will help teachers with the organization and delivery of on-site instruction. The written report (WR) assignments are:WR1 Resource Directory - A list of personal contacts for you to use when in need of technical, teaching or even moral support.
MEDIA PRESENTATIONS
WR2 System for Evaluation of Teachers - Information about how teachers are (or should be) evaluated.
WR3 System for Evaluation of Students - Information about how you evaluate (or should evaluate) your students.
WR4 System for Classroom Management - Information about how you operate (or should operate) in the environment in which you teach.
WR5 Material for a Substitute Instructor - What a substitute needs to teach your class if you are absent.
WR6 Teacher Observations - What you can learn and learn to avoid from observing other teachers.
WR7 Collected Lesson Plans - Specific examples of particular lessons you have taught or plan to teach.
WR8 Personal/Professional Mission Statement - How you define who you are and how you interact with others.
WR9 - Written Narrative on Covey's "8th Habit" - How to "find your voice and help others (your students) find theirs." Click here for an early start.
The two short PowerPoint (or video) presentations need to be prepared relative to the environment in which you actually teach (or would like to teach) and mailed to the course instructor (or posted on a personal web site). The first presentation should motivate students to enroll in a course you teach or could teach. The second presentation should be a short self guided lesson for students in a course you teach or could teach. Specific directions and examples of media presentations are included in the EVOC 518 E-TEXT.
EXTRA MILE ACTIVITIES
There are a variety of different enrichment activities to choose from, each of which should help to promote cultural awareness and ethical orientation.
STATUS REPORTS
Each of the three status reports is a sort of quiz to see how much has been accomplished up to the point the report is sent to the EVOC 518 instructor and how information and materials from the EVOC 518 course have been, or could be applied to actual situations in which you teach or could teach.
