Level 1 Designated Subjects Courses
Online Through CSU, San Bernardino
Anyone with five years of verifiable paid work experience from the field in which they would like to teach (one of those years having occurred within the last three years) may be able to qualify for a Preliminary Designated Subjects Teaching Credential. For example, if someone wanted to teach Underwater Basket Weaving, they would have to have actually worked as an Underwater Basket Weaver for at least five years.
Three courses are required to meet Level 1 course requirements for the Preliminary Designated Subjects (both "Career/Technical" and "Vocational") Teaching Credential. One additional course is required for the Adult credential. All of these courses are offered in an all online Web based format so that there are no scheduled class meetings and assignments can be completed at your own pace, whenever your schedule permits!
For people with Part-Time Designated Subjects Teaching Credentials, the Level 1 EVOC courses referenced below should meet all of the credential course requirements, but please check with whoever is processing your credential to confirm that. One of the first assignments in the EVOC 501 course involves preparing a checklist of everything that needs to be done to meet credentialing requirements.
All of the Level 1 EVOC courses through CSU, San Bernardino, are online courses offered every quarter (follow the "Class Schedules" link at bottom of this page) and you can enroll in all of the courses during the same quarter thus realizing significant savings on registration fees.
Course assignments, beginning with the EVOC 501 course (see below) can be started before applying for admission or officially enrolling (this is highly recommended), but grades cannot be posted until the end of the quarter in which one is officially enrolled.
It has proven to be very advantageous for newly hired teachers and people seeking teaching positions to subscribe to the EVOC 501 E-TEXT and start to work on those assignments ASAP!
