The Distance Learning Option is completely web based, so it is possible (with permission from the EVOC 501 instructor) to start working on course assignments at any time BEFORE actually enrolling in the course. There are no scheduled meetings and the online materials are available 24/7 so it is possible to do the assignments at ANY convenient time! Specific detailed directions and examples are provided for ALL assignments. The course instructor is available via e-mail to answer questions and provide feedback on course assignments.

In order to qualify for the Distance Learning Option for the EVOC 501 course, a scholar must be able do the following things:
  1. Follow written directions and work independently.
  2. Write with clarity about topics he/she teaches.
  3. Access online information in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT.
  4. Send and receive e-mail in plain text format.
  5. Prepare two short videos in Quicktime, DV or VHS format.
  6. Complete EVOC 501 assignments in a timely manner.
Specific information, detailed directions and an example for each assignment is posted in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT. Follow this link to see a brief:
In order to receive credit for completing the distance learning option for EVOC 501, official admission to CSUSB and registration in one of the regular scheduled sections of the EVOC 501 course must be completed.

CSUSB does not differentiate between distance learning courses and traditional courses as far as admission and registration is concerned. Anything pertaining to distance learning is just between the EVOC 501 course instructor and each distance learning student.

NOTE: All of the EVOC courses required to meet both Level 1 and Level 2 requirements may be completed through the Distance Learning Option.

VERY IMPORTANT: It is highly recommended for anyone who wants to do the Distance Learning Option to subscribe to the EVOC 501 E-TEXT and review all of the information about the Distance Learning Option posted in that E-TEXT as soon as possible.

Follow this link for information about the EVOC 501 E-TEXT.

Anyone who needs to enroll in EVOC 501 (and perhaps EVOC 518 and 519 as well) during the next possible quarter should apply for admission to CSUSB as soon as possible, and should follow the directions posted at: Anyone who encounters any difficulty with admission or registration, or who needs any clarification, should contact Dr. Pendleton via e-mail ASAP.
