Who Is It For?
EVOC 504 is required for both the "Level 1 Adult Designated Subjects Teaching Credential" and the "Bachelor of Vocational Education (BVE) Degree" at CSUSB. It may also be applied to an MA degree if it is not completed while still an undergraduate. Anyone who is interested in adult education is encouraged to take EVOC 504. It has proven to be highly beneficial for instructors preparing to teach in adult education programs, community colleges, training academies, apprenticeship programs, correctional institutions or business/vocational/professional schools.
What Is It About?
EVOC 504 focusses on adult learners. Assignments include research, discussion and presentation of topics pertinent to contemporary adult education. All course requirements are explicitly spelled out in the course syllabus and E-TEXT so that each scholar will be able to determine exactly what is expected, when it is expected, and what the standards of performance are. As a result of their EVOC 504 experience, scholars are expected to be able to demonstrate competency in each of the following skills:What Are The Options?
Apply basic learning theory to various types of adult learners.
Locate and evaluate appropriate resources for adult learning needs.
Discuss characteristics of effective adult learning environments.
Accommodate adult problem solving modalities to facilitate learning.
Identify and resolve common barriers to successful adult learning.
Identify and address four basic learning styles common to adult learners.
Apply Situational Leadership to increase success of adult students.
Apply dynamics of adult group interaction to student-oriented activities.
Discuss the American Disabilities Act as it applies to adult education.
Accommodate learning needs of disabled, ESL and older adults.
Demonstrate cooperative work ethics through working with groups.
Develop specific action plans to resolve adult student-oriented issues.

Where & When Is It Offered?
For purposes of Official registration CSUSB does not differentiate between distance learning and traditional on campus courses. Distance Learners can start any time (with permission from the course instructor), but must enroll in one of the on campus sections in order to get official credit (and a grade).
At least two sections of the EVOC 504 course are scheduled every year. Check our Projected Schedule for specific quarters when EVOC 504 will be offered in the near future.
