Who It's For
EVOC 519 is required for both Level 1 of the Designated Subjects Teaching Credential and the Bachelor of Vocational Education (BVE) Degree at CSUSB. It may also be applied to an MA degree if it is not completed while still an undergraduate. Distance Learners are encouraged to complete EVOC 501 assignments before starting on EVOC 519. Be sure to enroll in both EVOC 519 and the EVOC 519 Lab in the same quarter. Both those doing distance learning and those doing skills documentation must still enroll in both the class and the lab, even though they will not be attending any class or lab sessions.
Anyone who takes EVOC 519 is expected to have already mastered basic computer skills in word processing, web browsing and the effective use of e-mail (anyone lacking these skills should take a basic computer course at a community college or adult school BEFORE enrolling in EVOC 519).

What It's About
EVOC 519 focuses on the use of computers to prepare both hard copy and electronic instructional materials. Distance learners use their own hardware and software. Distance learners with limited computer experience are encouraged to find someone in close proximity to where they live or work who is willing and able to help them with EVOC 519 assignments.
The specific skills for EVOC 519 are:Options
Define and use essential computer terminology correctly.
Evaluate computer hardware relative to individual needs.
Evaluate computer software relative to individual needs.
Describe how computers can be used for instruction and support.
Create/modify/store documents using a word processing program.
Demonstrate effective use of e-mail and online resources.
Create/modify/store digital images using a camera or scanner.
Create/modify/store graphic files using a graphics program.
Develop an instructional slide show using a presentation program.
Develop and publish a personal or professional web page.
Develop a portfolio of instructional materials created on computer.
There are three options for completing EVOC 519:Traditional Option - for anyone with limited computer skills who is able to come in for class and lab meetings at CSUSB.
Whichever option you decide on, in order to get credit you must officially register for EVOC 519 at CSUSB. Anyone considering the Distance Learning or the Skills Documentation option should e-mail course instructor Donna Shea at evoc@verizon.net for specifics about getting started.
Distance Learning Option - for anyone with basic computer skills who is unable to come in for class and lab meetings at CSUSB.
Skills Documentation Option - For anyone with advanced computer skills who can demonstrate the EVOC 519 skills listed above.

Where & When
At least one section of the EVOC 519 course is scheduled every quarter. Quarters start in September, January, April and June. Check our Projected Schedule for specific days that EVOC 519 will be offered in the near future. It is extremely important for Traditional Option Scholars not to miss the first scheduled meeting of this course, even if the admission/registration process has not been fully completed!
Distance Learning Scholars and Skills Documentation Scholars will need to complete a portfolio (web based or hard copy) that demonstrates their mastery of the skills addressed in EVOC 519 and should e-mail course instructor Donna Shea (evoc@verizon.net) for information about how and when to get started.
