Instead of attending class and completing course assignments, scholars who have completed some approved type of formal teacher training (such as courses a university or in military training) and believe they have already mastered the specific skills specified for the EVOC 501 course may elect (if approved by the EVOC 501 course instructor) to document their mastery of those skills through providing a packet of materials (as described in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT) with descriptions and verifications of how they have mastered those specific skills.
To apply for the Documentation Option, qualified scholars must:
- Subscribe to the EVOC 501 E-TEXT and review all of the materials posted in that E-TEXT that relate to the Skills Documentation Option. It is highly advantageous to do this before actually enrolling in the course.
- Then send an e-mail message to the EVOC 501 instructor (as detailed in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT) briefly describing the teacher preparation course(s) they have completed and requesting the Skills Documentation Option. Be sure to include the essay specified in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT along with the e-mail message.
- The e-mail message and essay must be sent before the date indicated on the EVOC 501 Class Meetings Schedule posted in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT for Class Session 2 for the quarter that the student is officially enrolled in the course.
- The course instructor will respond by return e-mail indicating whether or not the request has been approved. If the request is approved (which depends on both the type of training cited and the quality of the essay), the completed documentation packet (as described in the E-TEXT) must be submitted not later than the date indicated on the Class Meetings Schedule for Class Session 5 for the quarter that the student is officially enrolled in the course.
Scholars with appropriate qualifying experience are encouraged to complete their documentation packet, as described in the EVOC 501 E-TEXT, as far in advance as possible. Packets may be completed and submitted before registering for the course, but course registration must be completed in order to get official credit.
